Investigations
How can we help?
Running an internal investigation in a school requires a structured, impartial, and procedurally sound approach to ensure fairness, legal compliance, and institutional integrity. The process typically begins with a clear articulation of the allegation or concern, followed by the appointment of an investigator who is appropriately trained and free from conflicts of interest. Relevant policies—such as safeguarding protocols, staff conduct codes, and applicable regulations—must frame the inquiry. Evidence collection should be systematic and well-documented, including interviews, written statements, digital records, and physical documentation where applicable. Throughout the investigation, confidentiality must be maintained to protect all parties, and procedural fairness (often aligned with principles of natural justice) must be upheld, including the right to respond to allegations. Findings should be based strictly on the balance of probabilities standard unless otherwise required by governing bodies. Finally, a comprehensive report should outline the methodology, evidence reviewed, factual determinations, and recommended actions, ensuring transparency, accountability, and risk mitigation for the institution.
